1st Birthday Flash Sale on Leafy Treetop Leather

Cognac Brown Triple Wrap Leather Bracelet with Ring

It's been one year since I decided to take my little side business online.  I resisted making the move for several reasons, but the number one being work/family business.  I tend to have a bit of difficulty not letting work consume my life, and with little kids at home I know I didn't want that to happen. Having an online shop means that you lose a bit of control over your work schedule.  With Etsy, although you can put your shop on vacation mode, and control your inventory, you never know when orders are going to come rushing in.  I didn't want to have to spend my life fulfilling orders, and rushing to the post office multiple times a day, but I still wanted to cushion our bank account with a little extra income.

Fortunately, over the past year I feel like I have kind of  found my groove.  My shop isn't always being pounded with orders, which is how I prefer it.  But rather, have been able to have a manageable stream of orders come through.  I've taught myself to stick to a schedule, and fill orders (for the most part) in the afternoon during quiet time and pre-school.  I also TRY to take weekends off, though I'm not great at it.

I feel like anytime you decide to venture outside of your comfort zone you are allowing yourself to learn and grow.  I am not a business expert, and to be honest, that isn't necessarily something I aspire to be.  I have, however, learned new skills, and refined old ones.  I'm grateful for the small but scary steps that I've taken outside my comfort zone.

6/2 Flash Sale: The Woodland Collection

In celebration of our first year on Etsy I'm running promotions all month long.  I have flash sales scheduled for each Friday of the month, with limited edition items available at each.  Save 40% during our flash sale promotions, and stock up for Christmas, birthdays, and back to school.  Our Woodland Collection flash sale is now live, and inventory is limited.

I'm shipping out a free gift with every online order, and have giveaways funning on both my @leafytreetopleather Instagram account, and Leafy Treetop FB account.  Enter for a chance to win either five pair of earrings, or 5 sets of bows.  I'll also be holding a second giveaway at the end of the month.  I'll be drawing the winner from all the buyers that placed an order during the month of June.

Leafy Treetop Leather: Custom Leather Cuffs and Leather Drop Earrings

Leather Wrap Bracelet with Ring

DIY leather projects have popped up on my blog since I started it so many years ago.  You can find tutorials for my leather bows, coiled leather cuffs, leather cord keepers, and leather bookmarks, and leather frames (which are still hanging on my fridge).

Black Leather Wrap Bracelet
I fell in love with leather when working with it in a book binding class in college.  I wandered into a leather shop looking for scraps to bind the spine of one of my books, and from that point I have been coming up with my favorite scrap busting leather projects.

During that time I also started selling many of my leather items in local boutiques and craft shows.  It has been about 5 years since I first started selling my leather goods.  I have always held off on listing them online, because making one of a kind goods is labor intensive, and listing them online makes it even more of a hassle.

But, now that my kids are getting a little older, and becoming slightly more independent, I feel like I can finally focus a bit more on the business side of my Etsy shop.  I will now be offering custom sized leather cuffs.  Each cuff will be specially made for you .

In addition to my leather cuffs,  you can find my handmade leather earrings.  Lightweight, and statement makers, these leather earrings will become quick favorites.  Choose your preferred metal choice :  Bronze, Silver Filled, or Gold Filled (great for sensitive ears).

Friday Finds: Giia Neckpieces and Accessories

Wien Hex Bib Statement Necklace: Giia
Today I wanted to share one of my new favorite shops, Giia Neckpieces and Accessories.  I stumbled  upon this shop and was quite stunned when I saw the statement pieces of jewelry that were available in their shop.
Octopus Statement Necklace, Photo property of Giia.

I've mentioned before that I'm not big on jewelry, but their pieces are so unique and interesting that I couldn't help but share this shop with you.

Cuore Wave Statement Neckpiece: Giia
The main material used in their pieces is felt.  Yep, you read that right, FELT.  The necklaces and cowls that they create are simply stunning, and incredibly sculptural.

Although these necklaces and accessories are quite different from the typical items that I create, they are sure to inspire.  I am always amazed at the creativity and vision that artisans have. Go visit Giia, and take a trip around the Etsy marketplace for a bit of weekend inspiration.

Do you have any favorite artisan shops that leave you inspired?

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.

Good Food, Guest Bloggers, and a Giveaway

I hate to interrupt all of the Hip for the Holidays fun, but I wanted to fill you in on a couple of things.

First off, I have really enjoyed celebrating holiday apparel, but sadly I am way behind on my crafted Christmas gift list.  I need a bit of down time to start (and finish) some projects before the big day.  I have decided to take a week off of sewing project posts, and share some of my favorite Holiday treats.  I know that all of you have certain foods, baked goods, and treats that put you in the Holiday spirit.  I thought that it would be appropriate to celebrate, and share, some of my favorite foods with you.  I'd love to know what your favorite recipes and treats are as well, and will be opening up a recipe link party come Monday.  So think of your favorite holiday treats, whip up a batch, post them on your blog, link them to my party, and then share them with your neighbors.

If there is anyone that is interested in taking a day to share their recipe on a guest post, please email me.  I have several of my own recipes that I'd love to share, but I'd be more than happy to have you participate as a guest blogger.

Bella, from Bella Before and After, is celebrating her 100th follower with a huge giveaway celebration. There are several shops that are offering giveaway items, and my little etsy shop is one of them.  You can enter to win an 8x10 print from my shop, or one of the other fantastic prizes.  Hop on over to her blog and show her some love.

Giveaway & New Items

I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of my little Etsy Shop.  Meet Mama and baby Kangaroo. How about we call the little one Joey (original right?)?  This painting was actually done before many of the others in my shop, but it has taken me some time to get it ready for printing and formatted for the web.  My dear friend Natalie (who also has a little one in tote) likes this print and motivated me to add it to the shop.  I hope that you like it too.

If you are interested in winning an 8x10 inch print from my shop just hop on over to Char's giveaway party at Crapivemade.com.  She is having a week full of giveaways in celebration of her 1,000,000th hit.  I'm so excited to be a part of the celebration.  I would feel awful bad if no one participated.  Make me feel loved and stop by.  It is super easy to enter.   Feel free to enter all of the other wonderful giveaways when your there...I just might.  She has new giveaways posted throughout the day.  My giveaway is set to hit the party at 2:00 pm MST, so stop by after then.

My favorite of the Bunch

Check Out just how much you can fit inside.

You might notice that there are a few other new additions to the shop.  I've recently added some of this super cute and useful credit card (or business card) wallets.  I've been giving some of these wallets out to the girls that I work with at church.  They've been telling me just how useful they are.  They are great for carrying student ID's, drivers licenses, girly essentials, and of course a stash of cash.  Check out some of the fun fabric prints.

New To The Shop

Alrighty, this isn't the post that I had planned on for today, but I am having some technical difficulties in posting....Aargghhh.  If I can get my computer to work with me then maybe we will have a two post day, if not we will settle for this.

I recently added two different prints to my etsy shop.  I thought that I'd introduce them to you.

This little cutie was originally done for an Illustration Friday post, I believe that the word of the week was "Crash", so that's what I call her.  Crash might seem a bit far fetched, but when I think of things that crash-waves is right up there.  It is a cheerful little image and you have got to love the polka dot bikini.

If you visit my shop you will find a large number of images in this same style.  I have worked on a series of animal portraits and this was one of the first that I did, but one of the most recent to be edited and prepped for print.  This is my husband's favorite of the bunch, but he loves elephants so there you go.

I'm currently trying to get a few more of my images ready for the shop, but these are the two most recent to join the group.  They are looking for nice homes.  Feel free to contact me if you know anyone looking to adopt.

I feel a bit bad shamelessly promoting my shop on my blog, but that is what originally motivated me to start my blog.  It's funny how sewing and crafting has actually taken priority and distracted me from pushing paint.

For more information about the images or my other prints visit my shop.

Ibex Treasury

It is always so exciting for me when other people find my work and like it. Today one of my prints that is for sell at my etsy shop, Ibex, was featured on an Etsy treasury blog. Yeah. You can check out the post here.
