Sweet Pea Dress: Stars And Stripes Edition

I'm making progress on my projects in progress, sadly not as much progress as I'd like.  Today I did manage to sew together a little Sweet Pea Dress with Diaper Cover.  I stenciled and cut out the fabric for this dress way back in April.  I thought I'd have it all put together, and ready to give away to my niece in July.  that didn't happen, and she'll probably outgrow it by next year.  So, I'll tuck it away in my box of finished projects, and hope one day that I can manage to make a little girl to wear it.

I only wish that I'd thought to make some white ruffled stripes on the diaper cover.  Oh well, maybe a striped star bumper sticker.

White and Purple Sweet Pea

So, I have my new sewing machine part.  I'm thrilled to have my sewing machine back.  I missed it, but was glad that it's absence coincided with my kids illnesses.  I had a baby shower that I was supposed to be to on Saturday.  The boys were still sick so I couldn't attend, but I did whip up a little dress to go with the car seat canopy that was the cause of so much stress.

You'll be happy to know that the recipient loved the canopy.  You were all right.  People have different taste in fabric. She didn't mind the hearts or the heart rainbows one little bit.

Some of you suggested that I throw in something that was a little more me. I did.  I love this little purple and white sweet pea dress. I only did a single layer on this dress, but I love it still the same. You can read more about my stenciling technique here.

The little knit diaper cover was made out of the shirt sleeves of the turtleneck that I repurposed.  I used Dana's Perfect Diaper Cover pattern and tutorial, it was great.

Sweet Pea Dress Pattern and Tutorial

Reduce, Reuse, Refashion: Sweet Pea Dress
from T-shirts.

So today I'm sharing a pattern and tutorial for this little refashioning project I just finished.  It is a really simple design, sews up in a flash.  I was able to use up two shirts that I had sitting in my "to be refashioned" pile.

This particular dress was made for my niece that is about 26" tall, and close to 18 lbs.  I'd say it's probably a 6-9 month size as far as most clothing sizing goes, but I think that the top could work anywhere from 3-6 to 12 months. It has a tie at the top that draws in the neckline; it could easily be adjusted to grow with your baby.
