Upcycled Chambray Baby "Toms"

Next up from the clothes pile, is a chambray shirt.  It never fit my husband properly, so it hung in the closet most of the time.  But, it has now become part of four different articles of clothing for my boys.  

 I made up these chambray baby "Toms" using Homemade Toasts' printable pattern.  The basic printable pattern isn't scaled, so you'll have to do that on your own, or purchase her sized pattern.

I love how these little kicks turned out.  The elastic, double rowed stitching, and little tags.  So cute.  Hopefully my little guy can fit in them.  My boys tend to have long feet.

FYI: I didn't scale the pattern at all, and figure that it is probably close to a size one unscaled.  I did have an issue with the uppers not meeting up in size when attaching them to the sole.  It was probably due to a cutting error.  It was a simple fix though, simply overlap the back heel over the toe piece a little more.  If you have this problem, pin the toe piece to the sole, and then adjust the position of the heel before attempting to attach the two.  It will help you find proper position, and eliminate seam ripping.

Also, I didn't ever rip the seam of the toe piece. I inserted the tags prior to sewing the seam, and slipped the elastic in the side.

Baby Shoes

Not baby shoes for my baby.  My husband wouldn't approve of ruffles and bows for baby boy number three.  I have taken a break from sewing baby shoes, as they take quite a bit of work, but something came over me, and I decided to restock baby shoes at the local gift bazaar.

Satin with ruffles.  What could be more fun.

I have some sort of need to make things for the baby, unfortunately there isn't much more to make for this little guy.  Instead, I get to focus on dressing other people's babies. Even people that know how to make baby girls! What a treat.

KCWC: Day 2- Little Leather Shoes

Woot Woot!  I made it to day two.  As I sat down to work on a project last night, I had in mind to sew a sweater/jacket for my youngest.  The truth is though, he doesn't really need a jacket.  I'll probably still make him one, but what the boy needed, was shoes that would stay on his feet.

He has long feet, and a puffy heel, making it nearly impossible to keep shoes on him.

So I decided to make some little leather (deer skin), shoes with an elastic heel.  They aren't the cutest shoes out there, but they're comfortable, and provide a bit of protection.  With winter on it's way, some sort of foot covering was necessary.

 The pattern is all my own, and needs tweaking before I share it with you.  Unfortunately/fortunately the shoes are just a bit on the small side.  I'm going to have to make another pair-hopefully I'll work out some kinks, and have a tutorial to share with you when I do.

Until then, these will do.  The leather provides a nice stretch.  And I think they're pretty cute for what they are.

Brown Bow and Pearl Baby Booties

Included in the bag of baby shower gifts for my cousin's family, was a pair of sweet and simple faux leather baby booties.  I added a small bow with pearl to the straps of the baby booties. The edges of the upper shoe are pinked for a bit of added detail.

They perfectly match a sweet little dress that I made for their little girl.  Unfortunately, you are going to have to wait to see the coordinating dress, I'm saving it for something special later on in the month.

The booties are a twist from the Reversible Mary Jane Pattern from Sweet Pea Patterns.  Obviously these booties aren't reversible, but I think that they are just as sweet.

One added touch that I really like is stitching the sizing to the insole.  I wish that I had tags and labels for everything that I make, but I'm just not to that point.  Having the size of the shoe will make it so much easier for the new mama.  Thanks to my Brother PC-420 I was able to make it work.
