Ruffled Headbands

I recently spent an hour or so making these singed fabric headbands.  I'm sure that you've seen them before, but it was fun to make some for my own use.

This cream headband is made out of scraps of taffeta from my lace for days maternity skirt.  I used some gold vinyl as the leafs/slide.

This is obviously a different headband, but I wanted to show you how the slide is attached to the headband.  I cut out the leafs, and then sew a strip of material down the center of the headband piece.  You want the two stitching lines to be at least 1/8" further apart than the width of the headband.  The headband piece slides easily onto standard headbands.  It allows you to have interchangeable headbands.

This black little headband was made for my niece.  The flowers (if you can call them that) are made from circles of fabric that are singed, and then pinched and stitched together in clusters.

For the actual black headband I used ruffled elastic from Deb's Lace 'n' Trims.
Now I know that I've been a bit of a poor blogger lately, but I am actually regaining my energy, and my motivation to get going again.
I'm planning on having a week long series of spring projects the third week in April.  I already have two of them finished, and have plans for the remaining three.

We are currently getting ready for a trip to warmer weather, I'm quickly realizing that Clark has outgrown most of his warm weather clothes, and that I need to get my buns in gear and make some short sleeved shirts.  I'm off to Joann's later today to find some more ribbed knit.  He's getting to the age where he is starting to have opinions about clothing. I asked him what kind of a shirt he wanted me to make him, and he informed me that a Spiderman shirt was at the top of his list.  I'm going to have to see what I can do to tactfully make a super hero shirt. Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading.  I'll try to pop back in before we head out.

Love the ruffled elastic! :) I'm glad you're feeling better and going somewhere warm. :) The new JoAnn's is awesome!! As for the shirt- maybe appliqueing a spider or using spiderman material for just the sleeves or trim?

Tricia,

Hey I want to do a sew into spring party. Consisting of only clothes that you make for anyone, maybe except the dog. Anyway, I was wondering if you wanted to be apart of it. I am a poor blogger cause I work full time. If you don't want to I will not be offended in any sort of way. JUst thought I would ask. Thinking of starting the linky April 10ish and running until the end of April. Let me know. Brooke

Love the headbands! As far as a tactful super hero shirt... I lean towards the simpler "vintage" ones, like this and this, but one like this webbed one would also be cool, and mom-okayed at our house. :)
