Toddler Swimsuit

Summertime is fading, and to be honest, I'm pretty sad about it.  Normally I'm ready to welcome in cooler weather, but this year my oldest will be entering kindergarten.  It will be a new phase of life for our family.  Our schedules will never be the same.

In an attempt to make the most of the remaining summer, we hopped in the car a few weeks ago, and had a big summer road trip.  We started out camping at one of our favorite lakes, and ended up spending some time in the sand and sun in California.  With all of the swimming and sunshine, a second suit was in order for August.

I had purchased this adorable swimsuit material about a year and a half ago, and finally put it to use.  I absolutely love the little lobsters.  The red athletic knit for the rash guard was purchased at Wal-mart of all places.  I used a combination of the knit and the swimsuit fabric for the hat.  My little Gus and an anything but little head, so having a nice knit on the sides provided the stretch that his head needed.

The bucket hat was made using Abby's (Sew Much Ado) free pattern.

Agua de Sandia (Watermelon Slush) - A Summertime Favorite

I'll be honest, I've never been a huge fan of watermelon. The flavor is fine, but I've never loved the texture. So I was amazed how much I love a good watermelon drink.  Agua de Sandia is one of my all time favorite summer drinks, and it is so easy to make.

If you have part of a watermelon that needs to be used immediately, this is a great way to use it up.  Scoop the watermelon out of the rind using a spoon, or my favorite, an ice cream scoop.  Place it in a blender with a bit of sugar (1/4-1/3 Cup) , and 10-14 ice cubes.  Blend on high until all of the ice cubes are ground, and enjoy.  It's such a refreshing summertime drink.

Agua de Melon (cantaloupe), mango, and pineapple are  also delicious. If you have extra drink, throw it in some popsicle molds, and enjoy the next day as a refreshing fruit-sicle.

Summer Time: Bear Lake

This summer has flown by, and it makes me sad to think that it is coming to a close.  My husband's current work schedule doesn't allow him to have much time off, and we haven't done much by way of recreation this summer.  He did manage to get off half of this last week.  His time of was split between a family camp out in Bear Lake Idaho/Utah, and my brother's wedding.  Needless to say, this has been a busy and somewhat stressful, but wonderful, week.  We had a great time spending some time in the sand and sun with family.

FYI: That's sand on my toes, not hair.

For those of you that live in Southern Idaho, or Northern Utah, you are probably familiar with Bear Lake.  It's the only lake in the area, that I visit, that has a sandy beach, and warm enough water for swimming.  The lake is quite large, the water clean, and absolutely gorgeous.

We all had a really great time.

My husband was pretty bummed that we had to miss a few days of the camp out, and head back for the wedding, but he put on a happy face.

 Miles loved the water.

Clark loved the sand! See those sandy cheeks poking out of his trunks? I'm so glad they didn't burn!

Thanks for a great get away Bear Lake.  We miss you already, and can't wait until next year.

I'll share some projects from the wedding later this week!  It turned out much better than I thought it might :).
