Home Improvements: Round 1

First off, thanks to all of the congratulations and words of wisdom with our new baby.  We are excited to see our little family growing.  Thanks for all of the support.

Do you ever feel likes things break down and fall apart faster then you are able to put them back together?  I feel like my little 16 month old is sure able to make messes quicker than I can clean them up.

Our house has been a bit neglected over the past few months (it's not just my curling iron and yarn).  With my husband busy with school and work, and pregnancies and craft fairs keeping me busy; it's been hard to stay on top of home repairs.

I decided that until we find out the gender of the baby, I'm going to focus on getting our home in better repair.

First up, the bathroom door.  The screws on the door hinges were completely stripped out.  I'd tries filling the holes with wood filler, and then screwing them back in.  It lasted about 4 days, but that was it, soon the door was hanging at the hinge.  So, thanks to pinterest, I discovered a nifty little trick.  You can put a small amount of wood glue in the stripped out screw hole, and pound a wood golf tee into it.  Trim off the top.  Let the glue set.  Then drive your screws in.  I finished this project about a month ago, and I'm pleased to say, that the door is still hanging. I'm sure that my family appreciates it, not that my kids seem to care a bit about bathroom privacy.  One day I'll be able to use the bathroom without interruption.

I'm hoping to tackle several more home improvement projects in the next 6 weeks, after that it's all baby, all the time.  I'll try to report on them, it keeps me accountable, and makes me a bit more motivated.  Carpet cleaning, and new paint are on the to do list....maybe I'll even clean the oven.

I miss my alone bathroom time. HAHAHA. Have you used baking soda to clean your oven? I tried making hamburgers in the oven (which weren't that good btw) and got to clean up grease. Anyway, I'm just glad I can get my oven pretty clean without using that sticky oven cleaner. :)

We use toothpicks, as they are pretty cheap, and they fill the hole just enough to get the screw back in tight.
Also, a little lemon oil and a very fine steel wool will polish out any surface scratches on wood furniture. Be gentle with it, but it works great!

Great blog! The home improvements for me are well underway, although it feels like the plastering quotes were received ages ago! You've inspired me, I think I'll get to grips with blogging and post some images once it's all completed. I can't wait!

Bathroom privacy is invaluable and it seemed to take forever to update our bathroom and fix everything. Now I am ready to do some outdoor work. We tore down our old deck in the fall and are building a new one this spring and adding a playground for the kids. It's a lot of work but it will be worth it.

I'm amazed, I have to say. Actually barely ever do I experience a site that's both educative and entertaining, and permit me notify you, you may well have hit the nail on the head. Your notion is excellent the problem is anything that not adequate folks are talking intelligently about. I am extremely joyful that I stumbled throughout this in my find for something referring to this.
